Summary
The first series of photographs were taken from Aug. 24 to Oct. 31, 1952. There are sixty-six separate images. The images are a large projection and cover the Greater Lawrence area. There is no correspondence concerning the 1952 photographs. The second series of six images were taken Apr. 28, 1978. Some of the photographs show areas such as Dracut, Andover, and Methuen. There are two transparencies in this series. The third series was taken Apr. 20 and 21, 1979 (there are four sets of sixteen lines of photographs). The fourth series was taken on May 3, 1980. There are 526 items in this series. These images are stamped on the back with the legend "James W. Sewall Company Old Town Maine." An index was acquired from the company in 2015 to show the location of the photographs in relation to a map. The fifth series of photographs was taken on Apr. 19, 1999 and contains eighty-six items. It was postmarked Lynn Smith and James W. Sewall Company and addressed to Joseph Guiffrida in the City of Lawrence Assessor's Office. There are two sets (one in black and white and one in color). The collection also contains some correspondence in a small folder between the Lawrence City Engineer, the Chairman of the Board of Assessors, the City Clerk, and the Sewall Company together with a proposal. All of the items in the folder concern either the 1979 or the 1999 contracts. Tax maps which were the outcome of the photographs and indices are also in the collection (2 bound sets); they are based on the 1979 photographs. Two other volumes are based on the photographs from 1980. The fourth volume seems to be an incomplete duplicate of the 1979 volume; the fifth volume was also based on the 1979 photographs
