The first annual homecoming of Lawrence High School was a special promotion of the L-Men's club. The event took place Nov. 15, 1959. The student body elected the queen and her six attendants. These young women, Barbara Capriole, Marilyn Tacy, Raymah Riley, Homecoming Queen Phyllis Sweder, Susan Mueller, Florence Moyes, and Paula Breen, were escorted to the stadium in open convertibles. Ms. Sweder presided over special ceremonies preceding the football game. The L-Men's Club operated a parking concession at home football games and ran weekly dances. The proceeds allowed the club to award two scholarships to high achieving local athletes. Other projects included a training table, an annual awards dinner, and a chartered trip to a Red Sox game for athletes, cheerleaders, majorettes, and the band.
