The Miss America contest started in the early 1920s as a publicity event for off-season Atlantia City. It very quickly became popular and soon there were contests all over the U.S. Cities and towns had their own events which fed into state contents. In the early years these produced several contestants who simply represented their communities. The style of swimsuit of the Miss Lawrence in this picture is very representative of the 1920s. The name of this Miss Lawrence is unknown.
