Summary
Two volumes which are both lined and the first one is paged. The first one is titled: "Samuel Stearns Lawrence, Mass. Feb. 1896." The second one is titled: "Catalogue of the Minerals, Rocks and Fossils of the Lawrence High School." It is believed that the first volume was collected by Samuel Stearns, who was born in 1820 in New Hampshire and came to Lawrence in 1847 and worked for many years as a carpenter. He died in 1908 and his obituary mentioned the fact that he had collected many specimens of rocks and minerals that he had given to the City of Lawrence (date unknown). The archivist believes that this document is a catalog of those specimens. The second volume is believed to be the catalog of the same specimens once they were taken over by Lawrence High School. Former students remember drawers filled with rocks and other items. It is not known what happened to them
