At the time of the trial Bridget Haggerty was living at 2 Shattuck St. In the transcript she says she had lived in Lawrence for 16 years. She had two daughters living with her, Nora and Nellie. The accident (the reason for the trial) took place Feb. 11, 1886 on Shattuck St. in the evening. Ms. Haggerty fell on the ice and two men helped her back to her house. Her leg was fractured and she was bedridden for three months. Two years later she graduated to a cane from crutches. She sued the City of Lawrence for $3,000 in damages.
