Summary
There are two sets of index cards in this collection. The first appears to be an index of topics to be accessed by the workers in the Engineer's Office or the Public Works Department. The second is called "Lot Plans". The first set includes these topics: asphalt, bridges (inspection of, painting), street estimates, carting, cement, chimney construction, Civil War (enlistments 1861-1865), cleaning streets, colors, concrete, convenience stations, crushed stone, culverts, curbing, dam, earthwork, electric lights, electric terms, electricity, engineering news, engines, fences, flag poles, folios, grades on Lawrence streets, granolithic sidewalks, gravel and sand, gutters, ice, macadam, meridian, metric system, old filter bed, paint, paving, pile driving, pipes, playstead, railroads, rainfall, rifle range, roads, sand filters, school houses, sewage, Shanty Pond Sewer, septic tanks, sewerage, sidwalsk, soil water and underdrains, Spicket River, standpipe, street cleaning, street crown, street watering, telegraph lines, telford, topographical surveying, town line (perambulation), trench, tunnels, Lawrence typhoid 1901, viaduct, walls, water, weight or structures, and wooden blocks. The years covered are 1891-1910. Information on the cards includes diagrams, statistics, pasted in articles and ads, and calculations. The Lot Plans indicate that they were copied in 1946. There are six columns: Street [name], location, lay-out, fol[der], fol[der] no (number), and plan number. The plan numbers seem to coordinate with plan numbers in the engineering plans in the LH series. Many of the plans still exist
