  • The only thing I was tired of was giving up. On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man on a segregated bus, prompting the Montgomery, Alabama, bus boycott. A year later, when it finally ended, bus segregation was declared unconstitutional, the civil rights movement became a national cause, and Rosa Parks lost her job.
