Summary
Papers of members of Donovan family members as well as the related families of Balloch, McCormick, and Winkley, all residents of Lawrence, Mass., in the 1850s., Chiefly consists of property documents of Michael McCormick, Henry McCormick, John J. Donovan, Arthur J. Donovan, Alonzo Winkley, and others, including deeds, evaluations, insurance policies, loan agreements, correspondence, cemetery certificates, and other documents such as an honorable discharge for Louis M. Donovan from the U.S. Navy received after his service in World War I. The early deeds for Lawrence real estate are unique documents often signed by officers of the Essex Company, the original owners of much city land (the company itself bought the land from others when it began the creation of Lawrence). It appears that the family consolidated over the years and property deeds for the extended family were kept together
