"The idea for this curriculum guide originally came from Shelley Quezada of the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners and Dick McLaughlin of the Lawrence Public Library who collaborated to develop the concept for Shaping our lives, sharing our futures and to secure funding for the program. Susan Dowd, ESL/ABE instructor at the Lawrence Adult Learning Center, became the curriculum specialist for the project, and developed and field-tested the lessons and activities for the classes. David Hildt, Assistant Director of the Lawrence Public Library, acted as project director, co-taught the classes with Susan, and co-authored Shaping our lives, sharing our futures a library-based writing program for students of English as a second language."
