Collection composed of 954 vols. (each 20 cm. high). In the beginning (1876) there were 6 vols. for the 6 wards. As the years passed more properties were added and some vols. documented one precinct. At first individual streets were entered and house numbers put in numerically. Corporations were put in by name with just the street where located. Individuals functioning as assessors signed the front of each book. By 1878 the vols. were called "field books". In later (1879) vols. the streets covered were indexed in the front with page numbers. Information included on each listing: name of owner, street number, lot size, value of the property, age and occupation of each owner, and occasional diagrams. Less personal information was required by the 20th century. In 1926 the term precinct was changed to district
