John Patrick Offer was born in 1920 to George and [missing] Offer of Lawrence (157 Haverhill Street). He attended Lawrence High School for two years then transferred to Tilton Academy where he graduated. He joined the US Navy in December 1941 during his second year at Northeastern University. He received his basic training at Newport, R.I., and transferred to hospital apprentice school in New York. Later he was sent to the Chelsea Naval Hospital where he was detailed to the Atlantic fleet transportation service. His ship and crew transferred to the Pacific theater and later to the Fourth Marines. Offer was a Pharmacist's Mate, second class. He was killed July 29, 1944 in the South Pacific. He received the Bronze Star posthumously. Col. Irving William Jackson was born October 18, 1908. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jackson and lived at 2 Holton Street in Lawrence. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1926 and West Point in 1931. He served in World War II in the South Pacific and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service against the enemy. He died from injuries from a motorcycle accident February 7, 1954.
