Summary
"Ben Sawyer was a big-city cop until he nearly killed a helpless suspect in full view of dozens of cell-phone cameras. The guy was scum, but Ben had gone too far. Ben and his family retreated to Newburg, the tiny Wisconsin town where they'd grown up. Though he's now a police detective, Ben's been a pariah since his father-in-law, the former chief, had a stroke. Frustrated with police work and struggling with the anger that drove him beyond the limits, Ben begins to suspect that someone in Newburg PD is taking payoffs from local drug lords. Investigating costs Ben dearly. He's fired; worse, his wife is locked up, accused of adultery and murder. Ben's only ally is a Latina rookie officer who is as much an outcast in Wisconsin as Ben himself. And that's just the start: a convicted killer has vengeance on his mind and Ben Sawyer-- and his family -- in his sights." -- Back cover
