The records in this collection have been kept in their original order, alphabetical. Sometimes the alphabetization uses individual names, at other time institutions or companies. The material contained includes: copies of letters going out, letters received, estimated revenue, elementary school loans and a ledger about renting a court room. The topics covered are virtually every aspect of running a city department, but primarily the tasks the auditor would perform. All of these files are in one box. The remainder was pulled from the files and unfolded. These documents include: bonded debt, comparative statement of departmental expenditures, outside debt limit, list of securities and cash in sinking and trust funds, comparative statement, Water Works Dept., appropriations, redemption fund and interest account, city debt statement, overdrafts and unexpended balances of various departments, standing of the various departments under the supervision of the Commissioner of Engineering, and summary of the standing of several departments. There are several of many of these with different dates. Volume 1 covers transactions with the various departments from 1888-1894. This volume has an index at the front. Volume 2 covers transactions with the various departments from 1910-1911. Volume 3 covers transactions with the various departments during 1911. Volume 4 covers transactions with the various departments from 1912-1913. Volume 5 covers transactions with the various departments from 1913-1923. Volume 6 covers transactions with the various departments from 1939-1942
