Summary
Dwight David Eisenhower, who came from the other side of the railroad tracks in the small town of Abilene, Kansas, became the Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force in Europe in 1943. He led this combined force through the perilous D-Day landings in France and on to a final victory of Nazi Germany in 1945. Following the Second World War, Eisenhower served as Chief of Staff of the United States Army, as President of Columbia University, and as a Supreme Commander of the military forces of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. This annotated bibliography will hopefully help others carry forward these debates through the study of Eisenhower and his times
