Account book (34x21x3 cm.), bound in black cloth covered more recently in mylar. Two inserts in the front: one is pencil drawing exercises including a clock face and a pencil drawing of flowers on one side and sums on the other. The first page written in black ink reads "Lawrence January 1, 1889". It proceeds to mention the leasing of property at 274 Essex St. for a store to sell "Goods and grocery business". The rent was to be paid to Essex Bank for the sum of $660 per annum. Accounts go through Jan. 21, 1889. The next entry appears on p. 19, Feb. 1, 1889 "A.B. Truel and S.A. Lovejoy have this day formed a partnership for the purpose of conducting the dry goods business at 34 Water St., Boston, Mass." Page 53: Lawrence, Jan. 1, 1889 buying and selling with several names listed. House and stock on hand expenses listed on pages 63 and 70. The rest of the book is blank. No information could be found as to the opening of a store in Lawrence in 1889
