Dr. George Packard was born in Wiscasset, Me., graduated from Bowdoin College in 1821 and practiced as a physician for 15 years; he was ordained deacon in Richmond, Va., May 1843 and priest in Boston, May 1844. His first parish was Christ Church in Andover, Mass. He became the minister of Grace Episcopal Church Apr. 20, 1846, a year before Lawrence, Mass., became a town. He served the church as pastor for the next 30 years; served on the school committee (1848-1852, 1861-1868, 1873-1875), and was superintendent of schools (1855, 1858-1860).
