The first two boxes hold folders that are in original order starting with 1909 and ending with 1948. They contain a variety of materials concerning the interaction between the Lawrence City Clerk, the City Auditor, the Civil Service Commissioners, various city departments, and the Massachusetts Department of Civil Service and Registration, Division of Civil Service. Materials include correspondence, lists of employees with salaries, reports of salary increases, notifications of employment, emergency appointments, and transfers. The third box is really a portfolio. It contains a folder that was labeled Civil Service Law etc. This folder has requisition forms, non-union Lawrence job groups, job descriptions, correspondence, job descriptions, salary survey, salary increases, request for promotion form, requisition for permit, and job responsibilities. There is another folder in the portfolio that includes material that is legal size. It contains job descriptions, and examination notices
