Summary
The first two boxes hold materials that document the formation and administration of the White Fund over the years. The records contain an incomplete list of minutes; copies of land transfers, indentures of trustees, securities transfers, ownership of land, the Wolcott will, manuscript of The White Fund by Wilber Rowell, and an agreement to build the Lawrence Public Library. There are also original documents: transfer of shares, ownership of land, agreement to build the Lawrence Public Library, a number of receipts of the purchase of what would become the White Fund paintings, documents concerning of the loan of the WFP to the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, appraisals of the paintings, documents concerning the resignation of Henry K. Oliver as trustee and James Eaton's admittance to the board, resignations and acceptances of board members, minutes and annual reports. Correspondence, in box three, refers to a variety of issues including administration, programing, and distribution of funds. The material, in boxes four through seven, is concerned with distribution of funds. Box eight includes copies of forms required by the federal and state governments. Tax returns are in box nine and audits in box ten. Box eleven and twelve contain financial statements from Walsh & Co. and Gordon Harrington & Osborn. The scrapbooks contain publicity and correspondence from 1900 to 1991. Finally, the images range from copies of the WFP to a variety of WF activities. There are a number of photos of school children visiting the Addison Gallery at Phillips Academy in Andover. There are also some photos of presenters at WF lectures. There are two pictures of an unidentified barn. There is one image from perhaps the 1950s of a store called Fresca's Variety located at the corner of Short and Elm Streets. There are a number of mounted images from around the city (perhaps used as an exhibit). The unidentified family portrait contains a young Mary Claire Kennedy. Most of the images (57-72) date from the 150th celebration of the founding of Lawrence, including the people involved with the Semana Hispana parade (1997). Finally the last seven snapshots appear to be of a formal event that included people involved in the administration of Mayor Mary Claire Kennedy. Though there is material in this collection that concerns the WFP, the bulk of the WFP controversy is now in a separate collection LH 2019.16
