Summary
Comprised of a number of ledgers dealing with various aspects of Lawrence City finances. The first eight volumes (various sizes) deal with incoming and outgoing monies into or out of the city departments. The first volume reads: "Detailed statement of receipts into the departments of the City commencing Jan. 1st 1866". The material runs to 1889. Departments listed include: Bridge, Cemetery, City Hall, Common, Fire Alarm, Incidental, Industrial School, Interest, Lighting, Liquor Agency, Military, Police, Pauper, Public Property, Reservoir and Water, State Aid, School, School House, Salary, Street, Sewer, Temporary Loan, Permanent Loan, Tax, Sidewalks, Paving, Public Library, Water Works, Park, City Engineers, Health, Spicket River, and Union St. Bridge. All the departments after Tax were written in later. The second volume has an index at the front that lists the pages the departmental records are on. Each page reads: "Department of …. in account into the Treasury Department". This book runs from 1873-1884. The third volume follows from volume 2 (1885-1902). The fourth volume reads: "Detailed statemtn of receipts into several departments of the city commencing January 1st 1890". It covers the years 1890-1912. There is an index on the front page. The fifth volume runs from 1907-1925. The sixth volume seems to refer to revenue only; with dates running from 1925-1934. The seventh volume reads "Cash" on the spine and seems to be only "Bills Approved"; dates run from 1890-1932. The eighth volume also has "Cash" on the spine with coverage running from 1935-1938
