The first five volumes are bound volumes. Every volume reads on the spine: "Membership Certificates retirement system" and the numbering. Each page reads membership certificate with a number for each individual, name, positions, address, and date. At least one volume is missing. The 6th volume has on the front board: "City of Lawrence Retirement System Warrants Jan. 1951 to Dec. 1956". Each page reads in landscape form: "City of Lawrence Municipal Board of Retirement warrant to Treasurer" and is dated. The columns are: Accounts, amount, retire. deduct., fed. tax deduct., bi. cr. and sh., and net. The 7th volume is called a cash book and is a ledger running from 1937-1959 covering annuity collections and expenses. Annual statements: "Annual Statement of the Lawrence Retirement System on the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to the Commissioner of Insurance of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts" which includes: funds to the end of the previous year, schedule of membership, bonds and stocks schedules, and bank deposits
